Ascot was inaugurated in 1711 by royal horse racing enthusiast, Queen Anne. The Queen declared that the Berkshire location (formerly East Cote) was worthy of becoming a place for horse racing.

The latest addition to the list of enclosures at Ascot is the Village Enclosure, which allows a less formal attire than the Queen Anne Enclosure.
